Design and philosophy. The origin of Louis Poulsen's design can still be reduced to the search for three shadows originally styled by Poul Henningsen.
It is the urge to confront the mild light of the Scandinavian summer with the dense darkness of the Scandinavian winter. Louis Poulsen has always designed light more than designing lamps.
Here too, as in the whole of the Scandinavian design, the form follows the function. The shapes are there, not because they are beautiful, but because they make beautiful light. It is drawing with light, a game of light and shadow.
Louis Poulsen creates ambience with functional lamps.
Louis Poulsen writes :
In 1924, Poul Henningsen created 'Paris' for Louis Poulsen, his influential lamp and the origin of the way we design until today, the dualities of design and light.
Founded in 1874, Louis Poulsen is a Danish lighting manufacturer in the Scandinavian design tradition where form follows function. The function and design of our products are designed to support the rhythm of natural light. Every detail in design has a purpose. Each design begins and ends with light.
we believe in a passionate craft that produces quality lighting and design products that appeal to the eye and the light.
In close partnership with designers, architects and other talents such as Poul Henningsen, Arne Jacobsen, Verner Panton, Øivind Slaatto, Alfred Homann, Oki Sato and Louise Campbell we have established ourselves as one of the world key Architectural and decorative lighting suppliers. By challenging traditional product categories, our products serve and cover the professional and private lighting markets for indoor and outdoor applications.
Our means are a simple and beautiful design. Our goal is to create an attractive atmosphere that affects people and spaces. We design to shape light.
